DS Action Celebrates 4th Annual World Down Syndrome Day Event by Climbing to New Heights for Down Syndrome

March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day! “The date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down syndrome.”
For the past 4 years, DS Action has celebrated with a major event to raise awareness about Down syndrome and promote acceptance of diversity in our community. Each year, the interest continues to grow. Therefore, we have extended the celebration throughout the month of March and ask the community to get involved by implementing their own fundraisers and raising awareness. Please come out on Saturday, March 24th and celebrate with DS Action & Rady Children’s Hospital, by “Climbing to New Heights for Down Syndrome” at Vertical Hold Sport Climbing Center. This event is open to everyone, from avid climbers to those who want to challenge themselves as a first-time climber. There will be plenty for non-climbers and families to do, as well. Proceeds from this event will support the Down Syndrome Center, at Rady Children’s Hospital.
DS Action, a San Diego based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, partnered with Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego to establish the first Down Syndrome Center in all of Southern California. The Down Syndrome Center opened on January 15, 2008 and has cared for over 600 children. DS Action relies on the generosity of the community to provide the funding necessary to allow children with Down syndrome an equal opportunity to receive the medical services and early intervention required to reach their full potential.
Help us to make this the BIGGEST fundraiser that DS Action has ever hosted. Our commitment is to reduce the current 6-month wait list and increase the number of days for children to be cared for at the Down Syndrome Center. In order to do this, we need to fundraise over $60,000.
